Introduction

Simply Practical, LLC ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Well Planned mobile application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our Service.

Data Collection and Storage

Local-First Architecture

Well Planned is local-first by design. All your personal data is stored locally on your device by default. If you opt in to Cloud Sync, encrypted copies of your data may also be stored in the cloud — but the app never requires cloud storage to function.

Cloud Sync (Opt-In)

Well Planned offers an optional Cloud Sync feature that lets you synchronize your data across devices and share it with family members. Cloud Sync is completely opt-in — it is never enabled unless you explicitly choose to activate it.

How Cloud Sync Protects Your Data

End-to-End Encryption: All your data is encrypted on your device with AES-256 encryption before it leaves your device. We cannot read your data on our servers.
Zero-Knowledge Architecture: Your encryption key is generated on your device and stored in platform-specific secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore). We never have access to your encryption key.
You Control Activation: Cloud Sync is off by default. You choose when to enable it, and you can disable it at any time.
Delete Anytime: You can delete all cloud-synced data from within the app at any time.

Authentication

Cloud Sync requires sign-in via Google or Apple OAuth. When you sign in, we receive:

A unique user identifier (provided by Google or Apple)
Your display name (e.g., first name from your Google/Apple account)
Your email address (used only for account identification)

This information is used solely to manage your sync account and family membership. We do not use it for marketing or share it with third parties.

What Is Stored in the Cloud

Encrypted Data: Your tasks, appointments, goals, household items, travel plans, and other app data — all encrypted on your device before upload. The server stores only encrypted blobs that are unreadable without your key.
Family Membership Records: Family ID, member roles (admin/member), display names, and join dates — used to manage family sharing.
Sync Metadata: Timestamps and sequence numbers used to coordinate sync — contains no personal content.

Family Sharing

If you create or join a family group, a shared family encryption key is used so family members can access shared data. The family key is exchanged securely between devices using encrypted key exchange — it is never stored in plaintext on our servers.

Data We Do NOT Collect

Unless you opt in to Cloud Sync, we do not collect, store, or transmit the following information. Even with Cloud Sync enabled, this data is end-to-end encrypted on your device before upload — we cannot read it on our servers.

Your task titles, descriptions, or content
Your appointment details or calendar information
Your personal goals or progress data
Your location data
Your contacts or personal information
Your usage patterns or behavior analytics (unless explicitly enabled)

Optional Data Collection

The app includes optional telemetry features to help improve stability and user experience. These are enabled by default and can be turned off at any time in Settings → Data Management → Privacy & Analytics.

Crash Reporting (Crashlytics)

What: Technical crash logs and error reports
Purpose: Improve app stability and fix bugs quickly
Processor: Google Firebase Crashlytics
Data: Device model, OS version, app version, anonymized instance identifiers, crash stack traces, minimal technical context. We do not collect task content, notes, or other personal data.
Control: Enabled by default. You can disable at any time in Settings → Data Management → Privacy & Analytics.

Anonymous Usage Analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase)

What: Aggregated usage statistics (e.g., feature usage counts, session duration)
Purpose: Understand which features are most valuable to improve the product
Processor: Google Firebase Analytics
Data: Aggregated, anonymized usage patterns (no personal content). Device type, OS version, app version, coarse locale/timezone. No precise location, contacts, or user-entered content is collected by default.
Control: Enabled by default. You can disable at any time in Settings → Data Management → Privacy & Analytics.

Premium Features

When you purchase premium features through Apple App Store or Google Play Store:

Payment Processing: Handled entirely by Apple/Google (we never see payment details)
Purchase Verification: We verify purchases through Apple/Google APIs
Feature Unlocking: Premium status is stored locally on your device

Data Sharing

We do not sell your data. Limited technical data may be shared with trusted processors strictly to provide app functionality and diagnostics:

Service Providers (Processors)

Apple App Store / Google Play Store: For purchase processing and app distribution
RevenueCat: For purchase receipt validation (no personal content, only purchase status)
Google Firebase (Crashlytics & Analytics): Optional crash and anonymous usage analytics processing; configurable via in‑app Privacy settings
Supabase (Cloud Sync): If you opt in to Cloud Sync, Supabase hosts your encrypted sync data, authentication records, and family membership information. Supabase never has access to your encryption keys and cannot decrypt your data.

Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our legal rights, but given our local-first architecture, we have minimal data to disclose.

Data Export and Deletion

Your Data Rights

Export: Use the in‑app export features to save your data to a local file
Delete: Uninstalling the app removes all local data from your device
Delete Cloud Sync Data: If you enabled Cloud Sync, you can delete all cloud-stored data from within the app at any time. Disabling Cloud Sync stops all future synchronization.
Backup: Optional cloud backup through your chosen provider (iCloud, Google Drive, etc.)

Data Portability

Your exported data is in standard JSON format, making it portable to other applications.

Security

Local Security

Device Protection: Your data security depends on your device's security (lock screen, biometrics)
App-Level Security: Optional biometric locks and PIN protection available
Encryption: Local data encryption available in premium features

Network Security

Minimal Network Usage: App functions fully offline; network used only for purchases, optional analytics/crash reporting (if enabled), and Cloud Sync (if enabled)
Secure Connections: All network communications use HTTPS/TLS encryption
End-to-End Encryption: Cloud Sync data is encrypted with AES-256 on your device before transmission. Your encryption key never leaves your device.

Children's Privacy

Well Planned is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us.

International Users

Data Transfers

Since all data is stored locally on your device by default, there are no international data transfers of your personal information. If you opt in to Cloud Sync, your encrypted data is stored on Supabase infrastructure. Because the data is end-to-end encrypted before leaving your device, it remains unreadable to any party without your encryption key regardless of where it is stored.

Regional Compliance

GDPR (EU): We comply with GDPR principles through our local-first design
CCPA (California): California residents have rights to know, delete, and opt-out (all available through app settings)

Changes to Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of material changes through:

Data Retention

Local Data: Retained on your device until you delete the app or clear data
Cloud Sync Data: If you enabled Cloud Sync, encrypted data is retained on our servers until you delete it through the app or request deletion by contacting us
Cloud Sync Account Data: Authentication records and family membership data are retained while your sync account is active. You can request deletion at any time.
Analytics and Crash Data: Retained according to Firebase's default retention policies (if enabled)
